Spaldwick Village Hall Project

You can now contact the entire Village Hall Management Committee by emailing villagehall@spaldwick.com

A recent survey of Spaldwick residents has re-affirmed the demand for a Village Hall, offering a wide range of facilities, and for a village playing field. The current Village Hall Management Committee decided to stand down in the expectation that a new Committee will bring renewed energy, expertise and ideas to the project.

An Extraordinary General Meeting was held on the 2nd December 2009, which included 33 members of the public. The new Committee (from left to right) comprises:

  • Eddie Roughsedge (Chairman)
  • Gavin Lessing-Caller (resigned)
  • Greg Rice (Secretary)
  • Mark Heath (Treasurer)
  • John Lock
  • Grahame Leach (Spaldwick Parish Council representative)
  • Ian Harbour (not present)
  • Mark Sturdy (joined in March 2010)
  • Mark Hunter (joined in March 2010).

The background to the project

By 2000, our old Village Hall was in need of extensive refurbishment, and planning permission for the development of a major extension on the site was refused. A public meeting voted that the old Village Hall be sold (which was completed in June 2002) with the proceeds used to build a new hall. Unfortunately, there has been little progress in seven years, with the Village Hall Management Committee reporting unexpected difficulties in finding a suitable site for a new Village Hall.
