Peterborough and Peterborough Cathedral

Peterborough is situated 25 miles north of Spaldwick, with a very easy 25 to 30 minute journey along the A1.Peterborough is well known for its excellent shopping facilities, which includes the indoor Queensgate Shopping Centre and a John Lewis department store. Peterborough train station is a major interchange, and it benefits from serving both the North-South East Coast Main Line, as well as East-West long-distance and local services.

Peterborough is also home to the beautiful Peterborough Cathedral, which is well worth visiting. Following an accidental fire in 1116, Peterborough Cathedral was rebuilt in its present form between 1118 and 1238.

The highlights of Peterborough Cathedral include:

  • the dramatic hanging crucifix, which frames the choir stalls
  • the spectacular central tower
  • the new building ceiling, with fan vaulting
  • the beautiful hand-painted nave ceiling
  • the marble altar in the sanctuary.
