The Spaldwick Parish Plan

The Government wants local communities to have more control of their own lives, to say what they want in their own parish and to work with other organisations to get it done.

The Government’s November 2000 Rural White Paper stated that Parish Plans should “identify key facilities and services, set out the problems that need to be tackled and demonstrate how distinctive character and features can be preserved”. They should set out a vision for the community in the future and identify the action needed to tackle issues of concern in addition to including everything that is relevant to the people who live and work in the community, from employment needs to playgrounds. The Parish Plan should consult everyone and give them a chance to say what they think about the social, economic and environmental issues affecting them and how they’d like to see their community improved. The whole community has to be involved, not just those who come along to Parish Council meetings.

In Spaldwick, we have the Spaldwick Parish Plan initiative.

The document also lists a number of actions that are needed to address the issues raised.

Spaldwick has spoken, and now it's time to make things happen

Following on from the survey, the most important part of the Spaldwick Parish Plan is now underway - the development of real plans and implementation projects to make things happen.

This page will allow you to track progress, and help you understand how you can be involved. To be successful, implementation projects will demand the skills, expertise, passion and time of Spaldwick residents.

So far, three initiatives have been instigated:

Improved facilities for the youth

A youth facilities group has been formed to progress actions to improve the facilities available within the village, which was a major issue identified by the Parish Plan questionnaire.

Spaldwick Village Hall and playing fields

The Parish Plan questionnaire has endorsed the need for both a village hall and a playing field and the resulting Action Plan calls for a re-vitalisation of the village hall and playing field project.

New! An Extraordinary General Meeting took place on 2nd December 2009, at Spaldwick School at 8pm,  which elected a new Village Hall Management Committee.

Speed reduction

The Parish Plan questionnaire identified speeding as a major concern for many residents. Subsequent independent speed checks have revealed a large number of vehicles travelling within the village above the speed limit. As a result, a speed reduction group has been formed.

Further information, to allow you to track progress and understand how you can be involved in improvements, will appear here.
