The Gardening Club’s major event of the year took place last Sunday, 22nd June. I’m sure everyone will be delighted to know that we took just over £1500, which will go to local charities.

We were delighted (and relieved) to see that the day dawned bright and sunny with the prospect of a dry day ahead. After a quiet start, visitor numbers picked up and, by mid afternoon, the village was buzzing. We had lots of feedback from visitors saying how much they had enjoyed the afternoon’s events. Parents also expressed their pleasure that there was something for the children to enjoy.
There are so many people to thank for all their sterling work: those who worked so hard to get their gardens ready to open, the helpers on set-up duty, the marquee teams, the tea room team (who were on the go all afternoon) and all those who generously donated cakes and scones for sale. Also, thanks to the plant sales and raffle sales teams and all those who donated plants and prizes, the treasure hunt organisers and the pet’s corner team.
Last but not least, a big thank you to the talented flower arrangers and helpers who transformed the church (shown below) into such a delightfully fragrant and interesting space with so much information about village history.
The next meeting of the Gardening Club will be on Wednesday 9th July at 8pm at Chestnut View, High Street. If the weather is good, we hope to take some summer cuttings in the garden.
