Latest! The service station is expected to re-open on Wednesday 26th August or Thursday 27th August 2015.
Following the appalling attack on Spaldwick Service station, we are pleased to report that plans are well in hand to re-open the Spaldwick Service Station. Trading is expected to resume at the end of next week from a temporary Portakabin.
For those concerned about the staff during this period, we can report that they are on full pay until the service station re-opens. The nightshift worker at the time of the robbery and fire, who lives in Kimbolton, is doing fine.
As we have reported in the past, the owners of the service station had plans to redevelop the location several years ago. In 2012, Applegreen applied for planning permission to “upgrade” the existing service station. As holder of franchises for Burger King and Costa, Applegreen proposed to build a drive-through and indoor restaurant.
At the time, the plans were a complete surprise to local residents and there were strong local objections. The plans were subsequently withdrawn. According to the Spaldwick Parish Council, the reason given by Petrogas for the withdrawal of the application was the volume of strong objections from the local community.
We understand that the incident has brought plans forward to redevelop the site, and the owners hope that construction will commence in early 2016. We will bring more information about these plans in due course.
