Hinchingbrooke School and Playtimes Secure “Good” Ratings from Ofsted

Photo of Hinchingbrooke School in HuntingdonFollowing its recent inspection of Hinchingbrooke School last month, Ofsted has just published its inspection report. The school has received a “Good” rating overall, improving from its previous “Requires improvement” rating. Ofsted said, “There has been a marked improvement in provision and outcomes since the last inspection”.

The report continued, “GCSE results in 2015 were significantly better than the previous year, with overall standards rising to well above the national figure.” Overall, Ofsted said that results in English, mathematics and humanities were “particularly strong”, with pupils achieving higher standards, overall, than nationally. However, Ofsted noted that improvements in science and modern foreign languages have not been as rapid as other subjects. This will be a focus area in the school’s aim to achieve an “Outstanding” rating in the coming years.

The report praised improved teaching overall. “The quality of teaching has improved since the previous inspection and, where substantive staff are in post, is consistently good and often outstanding.”

The behaviour of pupils was seen to be a significant strength, with most pupils conducting themselves “impeccably”. You can view the full report by clicking on the following link:

The news for Hinchingbrooke School follows good news for Playtimes in Spaldwick, which also received a “Good” rating from Ofsted in its recent inspection.

According to Ofsted, “The pre-school is welcoming and inclusive. Children develop strong attachments to staff and quickly settle in. They make firm friendships with others, learn to manage their feeling and behave beautifully.”

“Managers and staff are ambitious for the success of the setting. They work together very well and have an enthusiastic approach to their work, which is infectious. Children are motivated to learn and enjoy their time at the pre-school.”
